Collecting For Armed Forces

Originally Aired: May 6, 1941

Fibber McGee & Molly #286, "Collecting For Armed Forces,"

Fibber and his neighbor Gildersleeve engage in their typical heated battle over a checkers game, with accusations of cheating flying back and forth despite their claims of peaceful play. When Molly finally has enough of their bickering, she confiscates the checkerboard and decides to donate it to soldiers at camp who need games and recreation. Despite Fibber's protests that he and Gildersleeve are tied seven to seven and need to play one final championship match, Molly remains firm in her decision.

Inspired by the war effort, Fibber and Molly embark on a mission to collect games, books, and magazines from all their friends and neighbors for the troops. As they visit homes around Wistful Vista, including Nick Depopolis's place, donations begin pouring in. Fibber continues to grumble about losing his beloved checkerboard just when the championship hangs in the balance, but Molly insists that supporting the armed forces is more important than settling the score with Gildersleeve.
