Fixit McGee
Originally Aired: December 30, 1941
Fibber McGee & Molly #307, "Fixit McGee," Fibber is struck with a serious case of fixitis, working on a secret project in the dining room to surprise Molly. Armed with pliers sticking out of his hip pocket and a determination to avoid the spider-infested basement, he refuses to reveal what he's fixing, much to Molly's curiosity. His recent handyman triumphs include installing a new doorbell that plays a different tune every time it rings, thanks to his creative hookup with player piano rolls. When the elegant Mrs. Uppington drops by to invite the McGees to her formal New Year's Eve party, Fibber proudly continues his mysterious project despite the noise and mess.
As Fibber grows increasingly grimy from his work, Mayor LaTrivia arrives with an important request involving the city's new defense bonds and stamps drive. The Mayor wants prominent citizens to make speeches from a sound truck at busy street corners, and Fibber's name has been suggested. With Molly's endorsement of his speechmaking abilities, the stage is set for Fibber to combine his confidence as a handyman with his talents as an orator in service of the war effort.
