Mailing Christmas Packages

Originally Aired: December 10, 1940

In Fibber McGee & Molly #265, "Mailing Christmas Packages," Fibber and Molly prepare to head to the post office with an armload of gifts for their relatives. Their plans are complicated when their neighbor Gildersleeve drops by—not with Christmas presents for them, but with his own packages for Fibber to mail while he's out. What starts as a simple favor quickly escalates into a typical McGee-Gildersleeve squabble when Fibber agrees to purchase stamps for his neighbor as well.

The argument reaches a fever pitch when the two men disagree over whether the post office even makes four-cent stamps. Fibber insists on his expertise, boasting about his past employment at the post office branch in the Savoy Hotel, launching into one of his famous alliterative boasts about his mail-handling prowess. As Molly tries to keep the peace and the packages pile higher, the simple errand of mailing Christmas gifts threatens to become far more complicated than anyone anticipated.
