Newspaper Circulation Manager
Originally aired August 16, 1937, this episode finds Fibber McGee brimming with ambitious schemes to revolutionize the Wistful Vista Gazette. Insisting he has the know-how to boost circulation by 50,000 copies, McGee barges into the managing editor’s office with outlandish ideas—from printing headlines in wild colors to publishing want ads on inflatable rubber sheets for added “utility.”
Molly remains the voice of reason, but that doesn’t stop McGee from securing a role in the paper’s circulation department. Hilarity ensues as he hits the streets as a newsboy, barking headlines and fending off turf wars with rival paper hawkers. When he suspects one customer of being a wanted bank robber, McGee hatches a plan involving a manhole and a quick call to the cops—only to find he’s thrown the wrong man into the sewer.
Packed with zany antics, rapid-fire wordplay, and a classic twist ending, this remastered episode of Fibber McGee & Molly is a pitch-perfect snapshot of golden-age radio comedy, complete with Johnson’s Wax ads and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments.
