Stuck In Cement

When Molly asks Fibber whether he mailed an important special delivery letter, his suspiciously cheerful evasion tips her off that he forgot. Fibber dashes out to remedy the situation, rushing across the street to the mailbox, but his haste proves his undoing. Despite Gildersleeve's warning, Fibber charges right into freshly laid pavement and finds himself hopelessly stuck in the hardening surface. His attempts to free himself only make matters worse, as removing his shoes still leaves him mired in the experimental paving material.

As a crowd gathers, including Molly, Gildersleeve, and the Old Timer, Fibber grows increasingly desperate while onlookers offer more wisecracks than actual help. Gildersleeve threatens to fetch his movie camera, while the Old Timer suggests digging a tunnel from the basement. Molly attempts to get assistance by calling various city departments, but each bureaucrat passes the buck to another office, leaving poor Fibber cemented in place as the material continues to harden around his feet.
