The Halloween Party
Originally aired October 28, 1935, this episode—number 29—features Fibber McGee and Molly hosting a raucous Halloween party at 79 Wistful Vista. With guests like Martelli’s Orchestra, the Cleft Dwellers, Kay Donna, Audrey Call, Little Teeny, Mort Toop, and more, the McGee home overflows with music, laughter, and a healthy dose of chaos. Fibber concocts his infamous “Pumpkin Punch,” a mysterious brew with questionable ingredients (and effects), while Molly keeps a wary eye on both the punch bowl and the mischievous partygoers.
The festivities include musical interludes, apple bobbing, plenty of wisecracks, and Fibber’s exaggerated tales—this time as “Aunt Hunter McGee,” the hero of a hilariously spooky ghost story. Add in a talking cat, unexpected guests, a Glow Coat advertisement delivered by a “spirit,” and some classic doorbell mix-ups, and you’ve got a prime slice of golden-age radio comedy. Remastered for clarity, this episode is a perfect treat for Halloween and a fine example of Fibber McGee & Molly’s signature blend of slapstick, storytelling, and sponsor plugs.
