The Paper Hanger

Originally aired November 4, 1935, this episode finds Fibber McGee determined to redecorate the dining room at 79 Wistful Vista by hanging wallpaper himself—much to Molly’s exasperation. As McGee boasts of his past as “Pastel McGee” and recounts wild tales of kite-flying exploits, his actual skills with scissors, paste, and wallpaper prove less than masterful. Joined by the hapless helper Silly Watson (full name: Silvius Leviticus Numbers Deuteronomy 1), the duo struggle with lumpy paste, upside-down patterns, hidden calendars, and more sticky mishaps.

From mismatched purple poppy wallpaper to ruined furniture and accidental “improvements,” the laughs come fast as Molly does her best to keep order. The episode features classic Johnson’s Glow Coat ads and musical interludes, all delivered with the trademark wit and warmth that makes Fibber McGee & Molly a golden-age radio favorite.
