Wistful Vista Auto Show

Originally aired October 11, 1937, this episode finds Fibber McGee resisting Molly’s efforts to upgrade from their beloved but battered old car. When the couple visits the Wistful Vista Auto Show, Fibber is determined to find fault with every new model, even as he’s drenched by a failed demonstration of an automatic convertible top. From absurd sales pitches for the futuristic “Smootle Six” to Ceilie's dreams of chauffeuring in style for his girl Rosebud, and Nick DePopulous’s plan to economize with a taxi meter, the auto show becomes a four-wheeled farce.

With Molly’s patience thinning and a salesman sent to appraise their jalopy, the episode rolls out plenty of classic gags, mechanical mishaps, and a visit from little Teeny, whose innocent questions unravel Fibber’s pride yet again. Featuring original Johnson’s Glow Coat commercials and a musical interlude, this is vintage Fibber McGee & Molly with all cylinders firing.
